Preserving Memories, Sharing Legacies...Photographing my Grandparents
“The question is not what you look at, but what you see. “ —Henry Thoreau
More than just a house.
I see a home built by my grandparent’s and their children’s own hands.
I see a dream that took sacrifice, scraping, and several jobs to make happen.
I see a place where I had many sleepovers, sewing lessons, Sunday dinners, and conversations.
More than just a couple.
I see two people who found each other across an ocean.
I see two people who have gone through mountains and valleys together.
I see lines from the joys of life, and the traces of hardships.
More than just photos.
I see love, loyalty, and a life well-lived.
I see a passion for family land and heritage.
I see effort to acquiesce a granddaughter’s request for photos.
I see memories frozen in time that I will treasure for always.
I see a story of legacy that I could never put into words.
That’s what I see.
I’m so very thankful my grandparents entertained my idea to get photos of them with their newly pressure-washed house (thanks dad and boys) and in the pecan orchard. If you know my Papa, you know he’s not a fan of photos, so these are extra special. It’s photos like these that are my favorite to take…one’s that preserve memories, share legacies, and authentically represent life from picking pecans, to a feature of their cat, Jasper.
I hope you look close enough to see more than just photos. I hope you see the story and feel the feels.
